The 2020 PGA Merchandise Show is teaming up with two-time British Open champion and Orlando resident Greg Norman to support the American Australian Association in launching a Bushfire Relief Fund in response to the devastating wildfires sweeping Norman’s native land of Australia, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Australian Red Cross bushfire relief efforts.
The fund has been initiated with a $250,000 commitment from Norman’s Shark Shootout Charities, and the $250,000 was matched by the Presidents Cup International Team, led by Captain Ernie Els, and the PGA TOUR for a total of $500,000.
“Australia is in desperate need of our support and many have turned to me over the past several weeks to find out the best way to help,” says Norman, who is appearing in several capacities at the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show this week for Cobra Puma Golf, Garmin and on the PGA Forum Stage presented by OMEGA Wednesday at noon.
“The message from Australian authorities is clear,” continues Norman. “What’s needed most during this unprecedented crisis are cash donations, which is why I have coordinated with former Ambassador John Berry and the AAA to establish the Bushfire Relief Fund. With the support of my fans, colleagues and business associates, we hope to send a strong signal to our friends in Australia that the international community is there during their time of need.”
PGA Merchandise Show attendees and golf industry members can donate to the fund by visiting www.americanaustralian.org/australian-bushfire-relief-fund/. As a 501(c)(3) public charity, contributions to the Association’s programs and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
“As the largest international gathering of the industry and The MAJOR of Golf Business, PGA Golf Exhibitions is supporting the Bushfire Relief Fund, created in partnership with Greg Norman and the American Australian Association, to provide funds to the Australian Red Cross bushfire relief efforts,” says PGA Golf Exhibitions Event Vice President Marc Simon. “We join the international golf community in concern and support of fighting the devastating wildfires across the country.”
