Spain’s “Golf Boo” Wins First Global Golf Innovation Competition

Spain’s Fabio Peral has big plans for his startup company Golf Boo after the golf travel platform was named the winner of the inaugural HYPE Sports Global Golf Innovation Competition Tuesday as a prelude to the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show.

Peral’s fast-paced presentation promoting Golf Boo finished first among the 10 finalists in the “Shark Tank”-style competition for golf startup companies.

“It was very challenging to present all the information about our great company in only five minutes, but I was very happy with the outcome,” said Spain’s Peral, who compares his company, Golf Boo, to a Trivago or Travelocity for the golf travel business.

“Golf travel online platforms are three to five years behind the airline and hotel industry as far as making golf travel available to book online. We are poised for immediate expansion into North America and then into the Asian market, which is very popular with golfers, by 2020.”

Peral and Golf Boo received a $250 gift certificate and other perks from Topgolf for the victory, but also will find itself in FRONT of several potential FUNDING sources, compliments of competition organizer HYPE Sports Innovation.

Placing second was CEO and Founder David Cavossa of CaddieNow, a service that connects golfers with caddies, and allows golf facilities to add a caddie program without the overhead costs. The blue-ribbon panel of eight judges from the golf industry selected Chris Mansson and Kinexit, a training system to promote better golf, as the third-place finisher in the competition at the Orange County Convention Center.

The Shark Tank-style competition ALSO featured presentations by Golf Post, a new media house for golf; Khelfie Technologies, golf’s first AI-powered super-wearable; Players 1st, a program to identify players’ needs and keep them in the game; Shot Scope, a new GPS and fully automatic performance tracking system; Swing King, a program to produce revenue for courses and excitement for golfers; TDJ Golf, which merges on-course play and fantasy golf; and 6Joe’s, whose slogan is “Play like a Joe. Score like a pro.”

The panel of judges for the inaugural Global Golf Innovation Competition included Uli Becker, Chairman, HYPE Capital, Former President & CEO of Reebok; Roberta Bowman, Chief Brand & Communications Officer, LPGA; Randy Chase, Sr. Director of Strategic Alliance Marketing, Electronic Arts/EA Sports; Amy Fischer, Group Vice President Strategy & Insights, Reed Exhibitions; Elisa Gaudet, Founder, Women’s Golf Day and Executive Golf International; Jeehae Lee, Director of Business Development, TopGolf; Ashley Mayo, Director of Brand for Golf Magazine/8AM Golf; Jeff Price, Chief Commercial Officer, PGA of America; and Eddie Smith, Vice President-Golf, Lagardére Sports.
