Tips for Selling: Outings, Tee Gifts & Awards

“We recently started offering outside golf events the option of doing shopping sprees for a variety of tee gifts while hosting their event. We offer a wide price range from $25 to $75 per person. A lot of the groups opt for the $25-$35 per person range, which allows us to spotlight a lot of gift items and increase our revenue, since many players exceed their $25-$35 tee-prize allotment when shopping in the golf shop. In recent years, we have been able to increase our sales of divot-repair tools/ball-marker packages, custom headcovers, golf towels, hat clips, wallets, apparel, headwear and just about anything you would find at a price point below $50. The golfer gets what he or she desires, and we increase our revenue on gift items.”

“We walk all of the aisles at the PGA Merchandise Show every year looking for new, distinct tee prizes that will appeal to golfers who participate in our many charity events. We traditionally find a lot of new items that are affordable and make great tee gifts when purchased in bulk. The challenge is to provide something new every year, since several players participate in our events year after year.”

“We draft a list of all of our tournaments, charity events and outings before the season starts and chart what tee prizes or gifts will be offered at each event. Then we see which vendors we have worked with in the past who have items that fit into our budgets, and we look for new companies and new tee gifts at the PGA Merchandise Show each year. The important thing is to have a budget for each tournament or outing, and try to find items that are both appealing and stay within that budget.”
