The after-hours concert experience, open to all Show attendees, featured PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) as its charitable partner, honoring Veterans, active military, PGA HOPE certified PGA of America Golf Professionals, PGA HOPE Ambassadors and PGA HOPE graduates. The event was sponsored by adidas and Corebridge Financial.
“This is a great break from the crazy pace of the Show, and the fact that I love country music makes it all that much better,” said Blake Mohrman, a designer for the new golf line B.S. Sport, who came to the concert with business partner Savannah Shoemaker dressed in full country garb.
Owen, whose career highlights include 10 No. 1 singles and over 2.5 billion U.S. on-demand stream, is known for his laid-back style and hits like “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” “American Country Love Song,” “Alone with You” and others. His seventh studio album, Loose Cannon, was released last summer and fans have responded enthusiastically to great new tracks like “Solo, Solo,” “Nothing,” “Hot Truck Beer” and “On the Boat Again.”
Kelli Kerby, who was at the PGA Show representing former Major League Baseball player Johnny Damon and the company Robert Graham, said she particularly wanted to hear Owen’s “Go Down to the Honkeytonk,” which he played as one of his first couple of selections. “I grew up on his music so there are so many positive associations from my childhood,” she said.
Prior to Owen’s enthusiastic entrance, the Back Country Boys, a country rock band from Southwest Florida, opened the show, and Latin Grammy winning and Grammy performing trumpeter, songwriter, producer DJ and musical director Spencer Ludwig closed things out on an exciting concert night.
“This type of event lets everyone let loose after a day on the Show floor,” said Taylor Whalen, a member of the board of directors at The Savannahs Golf Course in Merritt Island, Florida. “Whether you’re a buyer, company rep or some other part of the golf industry, it’s a great way to have fun and enjoy a great country artist.”
